This story is adapted from ‘Chicken soup for the kids soul’
It is about a dog named Monsieur DuPree. Monsieur DuPree’s owner was an old man. The old man had to move to an old-age home and he could not bring Monsieur DuPree along as they do not allow dogs there. He then decided to find a nice new home for Monsieur DuPree. He tied a huge red bow around it’s neck and attached a note to it. The note says “Merry Christmas! My name is Monsieur DuPree. For breakfast I would like bacon and eggs- even corn flakes will do. For dinner, I prefer mashed potatoes and some meat. That’s all. I eat 2 meals a day. In return, I will be your most loyal friend.”They walked a long way until they came upon a victorian house surrounded by tall trees. He said that it would be a nice home for him. He unleashed his dog and asked him to go up the steps of the door and scratch on the door. Reluctantly, it ran up the stairs and scratched at the door.A little boy opened the door and saw Monsieur DuPree and thought that Santa had given him a dog as a present for Christmas. Meanwhile, the old man saw Monsieur DuPree for the last time. Through watery eyes, he whispered “ Merry Christmas, my friend .” And the old man disappeared behind the trees.
This story is about 3 children named Lucy, Hermione and Sam.
Lucy, Hermione and Sam lived in Popcorn island. The dark and rich soil in popcorn island was suitable for growing popcorns. The villagers would gather the crop and then help to load it onto the ship which imported popcorn to America. The captain of the ship was Captain Foster. He owned the ship and was very popular on the island as he always allowed children to come aboard and drink special lemonade he made for them. Captain Foster had a dog named Biscuits, who was also very popular with the children. The children lived a happy and peaceful life until one day a disaster strikes……
While sailing on the ocean, Captain Foster was robbed by pirates. The pirates took all the sacks of popcorns even Biscuit’s dog food! When he returned back to popcorn island, Lucy and Hermione was delighted to see him. He told them that he was robbed by pirates.
The next day, the three children sailed out at sea with the captain. When they saw a pirate’s ship heading towards them, Captain Foster told the children to hide at the back of the wheelhouse under old popcorn sacks as he did not want the children and Biscuit to get into any trouble. Soon, the pirate ship caught up with them and they put a plank over the ship and went onto Captain Foster’s ship. They asked him for money but Captain Foster told him that he did not have much money. Just as the pirates were about to leave the ship, Biscuits started to bark and the pirates found them hiding under the old popcorn sack. Lucy, Hermione and Sam were forced to work for the pirates. Luckily, the children came up with a plan and decided to cook popcorn for the pirates. They cooked the popcorn till it filled the whole room and they locked the room with a key and escaped. The plan turned out successfully. However one of the pirates, Ed saw them. Just then Biscuits leaped out and growled fiercely at Ed. As Ed was about to kick Biscuits, it suddenly latched on his leg. Lucy, Hermione and Sam quickly tied Ed with a rope tightly. Then they sailed the ship to Captain Foster’s ship. The children helped to untie Captain Foster. Then they attached the pirates ship to theirs and sailed back to popcorn island.
The pirates were finally send to jail.
As Christmas is around the corner, i would like to dedicate this song, ‘Last Christmas’ to all of you out there. This song is sang by George Michael , the original singer.

John and Nicky’s parents were both volcano experts. As it was a dangerous job, they send John and Nicky to stay with their Aunt Rebecca. Aunt Rebecca was a kind hearted person except she has very precise ideas about food. John and Nicky had to eat healthy meals all the time, that means no chips nor a chocolate cake for them… One Day, John and Nicky’s friend, who was a chef, won in a food contest. He send in his favourite spaghetti sauce recipe and won a chance to explore the whole spaghetti factory as well as to make his own spaghetti in the factory. As he was very busy with his work, he let Nicky and John to go on his behalf. Both of them were overjoyed! However Aunt Rebecca forbidden them to go as she thinks spaghetti was an unhealthy food. But John told her that it was very rude to turn down this invitation. After a lot of grumbling and nagging, she finally allowed them to go. On the day of the visit to the factory, a spaghetti factory car brought them there. They explored the whole factory and making their own spaghetti. They even had lunch with Mr Pipelli, the chairman of the factory. Each of them had 6 plates of spaghetti! When it was time to go back, the car picked them up and Mr Pipelli waved goodbye to them. When they got home, Aunt Rebecca was horrified to see that their clothes were stained with ketchup. The next day she went to the factory to complain to Mr Pipelli .Surprisingly, Mr Pipelli was not angry and he treated her very well. In return, she invited Mr Pipelli to her house for lunch. Everyday he came to lunch and after eating they would take a walk together at Aunt Rebecca’s garden and he would pluck a rose from one of her rose bushes and give it to Aunt Rebecca. When Mr Pipelli proposed to Aunt Rebecca one day, she agreed. On their wedding day, Aunt Rebecca and Mr Pipelli sat a car and went for their honeymoon in
Italy. Nicky, John and the workers of the factory threw confetti on the newly-weds.But it was not the confetti they threw – it was spaghetti!!

Donna envied Jane very much and longed with all her heart to be just like her. Jane was the smartest girl Donna ever known. She always got straight A’s and she was pretty too. One day, after a soccer practice, Jane and Donna were standing together waiting for their mothers. Donna watched Jane read a textbook. She saw that Jane looked very sad. When she asked her why was she so sad, Jane looked at Donna for a moment and whispered softly inside her ears. She said her dad used a leather strap to beat her the night before. Her dad wanted to see straight A’s for her test as he always get straight A’s in school. Since Jane was his daughter, she must also get straight A’s. Jane’s dad hit her because she got B+. Donna told her that her dad had never hit her before. Just then, Jane’s mother came driving in a big, white car. Jane rushed and opened the car door. She looked back and asked Donna to keep it as a secret. Jane and Donna became best friends then. However from that day onwards, Donna did not envy Jane anymore….

I found this book at the National library while browsing for books written by Roald Dahl.
Looking at this book, you might not be interested. However it has a very heart touching story…… This story is about a Phantom who hunts the opera in Paris. His name was Erik. Erik had fallen deeply in love with Christine Daae, a new singer at the opera house. Unfortunately, she was in love with a man named Raoul de chagny. Erik was jealous whenever he saw Christine with Raoul. The Phantom, Erik threatened Christine to marry him or he would harm those people in the opera house. When he proposed to Christine, she rejected . In the end, Erik died because of love. Before he died, he told Christine to bury him in secret place. I like the story as Christine braved all the dangers ahead of her. At the same time, I also pity the phantom.
